DC Emancipation Day Parade 2004 - Friday, April 16th
"Slavery was abolished in the District of Columbia on April 16, 1862, nine months before President Abraham Lincoln signed the famous Emancipation Proclamation freeing slaves in the rest of the United States.  The District of Columbia will celebrate this historic milestone from April 12 to 18 with a series of special events, including a parade, concert and fireworks on Friday, April 16.  Join in the celebration, and find out more about the rich history of our city."

National Theatre Summer Cinema Series - MONDAYS through August 16th
"The National Theatre presents a FREE Summer Cinema Series.  This series is an official event of America Celebrates the Greatest Generation a 100-day tribute in connection with the inauguration of the new WWII Memorial in Washington.  There is no charge for any of the screenings, and admission is on a first-come, first-seated basis."
