What Black America is talking about...or should be.

United We Stand?

On October 25 and 26, 2001, two white fraternities at Auburn University (Alabama) hosted Halloween parties. During the parties, members of Beta Theta Pi and Delta Sigma Phi fraternities posed as the following: Klu Klux Klan members with rifles; a lynching victim in blackface with a noose tied around his neck; and blackface members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity  with afro wigs, camouflage pants, and gold jewelry. A confederate flag hung in the background.

Seems to me that America is following the advice of president George W. Bush, and going about business as usual. These "future leaders of America" are practicing a tried and true tradition. The only question that I have is do we as Black folks understand what this country means when they shout "United We Stand!"? The "we" that they are talking about does not include "us".  Now is the time that many white Americans feel ok about not being culturally sensitive or politically correct.  When the attorney general talks about profiling and phone tapping and increasing police powers, white America cheers. They know that those tools do not apply to them. They understand that any loss of civil rights will be limited to those that have had to work, fight and even die for those rights. They rest assured that Bush, Cheney and Ashcroft are working hard bring us back to the good ole' days.

Please wake up Black America. The next target in the "War on Terrorism" might well be you.
