What Black America is talking about...or should be.

The culture of the week.

Why is it that I am seeing so many Black people with Asian symbols on their clothing and bodies. Several NBA stars have been seen sporting a tatoo with Asian symbols. I was in a restaurant the other day and I my server had "her name in Chinese letters" tatooed on her arm. When I asked if she spoke Chinese or  if she was of Chinese ancestry, she replied no to both. I'm more than a little confused. We have so much to learn and do to appreciate our own culture. How is it that we have developed a fascination with someone else's?

I have nothing against Asian culture. I respect it. It is appropriate for Asians to be proud of and display the symbols of their long and rich history. My only issue is why our youth are flocking to this without any real knowledge of Africaness.  If we don't love and repect who we are, how can we expect others to respect us?
